Simulation of rolling of check rail support plates
Check rail support plates, constructional elements, ultra flexible rail mill, roll pass design, finite element simulations
Check rail support plates made of steel for fastening rails are important constructional elements for track systems. Those check rail support plates are manufactured in the rail mill at voestalpine Schienen GmbH in Leoben-Donawitz, Austria. Starting products are billets which are rolled to preliminary sections in a break-down rolling stand. After passing the roller table they are rolled to the finished product in the ultra-flexible rail (UFR) mill. Due to changed rolling conditions after the modernisation of the rail mill

Hot stamped components with tailored properties-simulation and validation of product performance
Simultaneous forming and quenching, hot stamping, press hardening, tailored properties, passive safety car components
Simultaneous forming and quenching is a method for manufacturing light and ultra high strength components. The process is often referred to as hot stamping or press hardening and is mainly used for producing passive safety components such as side impact beams, bumper beams, A- and B-pillars and different types of reinforcement components. Generally, the microstructure in the hot stamped components consists of martensite or a mix of martensite and bainite, but there is a strong need from several OEM (original

Study on desulphurization and reoxidation by coupled thermodynamic modelling and CFD simulation
Reoxidation, desulphurisation, CFD, ladle treatment, model simulation, thermodynamics
In the present work, a thermodynamic model taking into account all involved slag metal reactions was incorporated into a 2-dimensional fluid flow model of an argon stirred ladle. Both, the thermodynamic constraints and the mass balance were considered. The activities of the oxide components in the slag phase were described using the thermodynamic model by Björkvall, and the liquid metal using the dilute solution model. Desulphurization was simulated using the sulphide capacity model developed by KTH group. A 2-dimensional fluid

Influence of parent metal mechanical properties on those of the different ultra-high-strength steel electron beam welds
Maraging steel, medium-alloy medium-C steel, electron beam welding, hardness, tensile strength, impact toughness.
Several combinations of a maraging steel and a medium-alloy medium-C steel both in various conditions were joined by electron beam welding. In the as-welded condition, both, a strength minimum and a toughness maximum were observed. Post-weld aging resulted in increased strength and reduced toughness. The toughness of the welds between both steel grades was observed to lie inbetween that of the maraging steel and medium-alloy medium-C steel.
