The "Yellow" Foundry Dictionary provides all people in the foundry industry, and those who work with them, with an indispensible aid for the understanding of technical terminology between the German and English speaking areas of the world. Since publication of the 1st edition in 1971 its handy size has found wide acceptance and circulation in Germany and abroad.

Considering the growing European Common Market and the globalization of science and industry, this 3rd edition has again been comprehensively revised and updated. In doing so, the successful concept has been maintained, namely, supplementation of foundry practice, production and research terminology together with the numerous closely related fields as well as with commercial and industrial management terms. The dictionary thus now contains around 18,000 terms in each language.

The dictionary has again been edited by Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Standke, previously for many years editor of VDG, to whom special thanks are due for his engagement in this work. We would also like to express our thanks to all contributors who, in spite of their many responsibilities, have checked and supplemented terminology in their specialist fields, and to Dipl.-Ing. Kerstin Garbracht for her expertise in computerization of the project and to the Giesserei-Verlag for printing and publication.

We are always pleased to receive recommendations regarding amendments and supplements to this dictionary. The VDG Technical Information Centre in Düssseldorf would also be happy to provide further information from specialist fields associated with the foundry industry.
