ArcelorMittal Warszawa inaugurates new bar rolling mill
Sep 24, 2008
ArcelorMittal Warszawa, subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Group, inaugurates the new bar rolling mill following an investment of 80 million Euro.

The rolling mill is equipped with a 160-t/h walking-hearth reheating furnace connected to the existing continuous caster for direct hot charging of billets. This will result in energy savings of around 334 kJ/kg. The 18-stand mill is made up of heavy-duty housingless stands with automatic fast changing system for improved mill efficiency and operational flexibility. Rolling speed can be varied up to 18 m/s.

With a production capacity of 650000 t/a, the facility is ready to deliver rebars of 8 - 40 mm, plain bars of 16 - 50 mm, as well as squares, flats, equal angles and channels. Thus, ArcelorMittal Warszawa provides the complete product range,  mainly intended to serve the booming construction market in Poland.

Commenting on the latest ArcelorMittal investment in Poland, Gonzalo Urquijo, member of the ArcelorMittal Group Management Board tells STEEL GRIPS: "This investment marks the start of a new era for ArcelorMittal Warszawa, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The new rolling mill completes the modern melt shop constructed at the end of the nineties and transforms the plant into a state-of-the art mini mill. Thanks to the most advanced technologies installed, ArcelorMittal Warszawa can now further develop its production and respond to the steady demand generated by the dynamic growth of infrastructure investments in Poland."

During the past three years, the group invested over 920 million Euro in Polish steel plants, amongst these the hot rolling mill in Cracow, continuous casting equipment in D?browa Górnicza, the coating line in ?wi?toch?owice, as well as the modernization of the wire rod mill in Sosnowiec.
