Corus Staal orders an X-Melt 330-t twin ladle furnace

Corus Staal BV, the Netherlands, has awarded to SMS Demag, an order to supply an X-Melt 330-t twin ladle furnace and a stirring station for the IJmuiden iron and steel plant in North Holland. By means of this comprehensive modernization project, Corus Staal intends to expand its range of quality grades.
The SMS Demag supply scope also includes ancillary equipment such as the dust collecting facility, alloy addition system and cooling water system. The order comprises the supply and installation of the mechanical, X-Pact electrical and automation systems, including the technological process models (Level 2).
The ladle furnace and the stirring station will be erected in the existing oxygen steelworks while production is taking place. The commissioning of the complete secondary steelmaking unit is scheduled for summer 2009.
