MMK restarts pickling line no1 after accident
Feb 25, 2007

Less than 2 months after the fire that partially destroyed pickling line no1 at MMK in Russia, the plant has been put again into operation in record time. On January 24th morning, the first coil has been processed through the renewed line.

After the accident, Tenova Strip Processing has immediately coordinated with MMK its intervention for a rapid repair in order to minimize the production losses of the plant. Special flights, seven so far, took off from Genoa airport, transporting more than 80 tons of material and equipment for the rebuilding of the seriously damaged line.
This is the first step of a complicated job, which allows now MMK to restart with the production although the complete recovery of the plant should be completed in the next few months.

Main features of the new high-performance effluent-free pickling line are a very high capacity of up to 2.000.000 t/a of steel strip, the very high processing speed (300 m/min), and a maximum strip width of1850 mm as well as a new acid regeneration plant (11,000 l/h).
