Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI), USA, has placed an order with SMS Demag, Germany, for the modernization of the casting strands of the CSP plant (Compact Strip Production) which were commissioned in 1995 and 1996 (second strand).

The modernization involves the extension of the strand guide system to include a fourth segment as well as the conversion of the oscillator from electromechanical to hydraulic operation. 

With this measure, the drive rolls of the pinch roll bending unit are integrated in the new Segment 4. The hydraulic oscillator makes it possible to follow various curves, strokes and frequencies as a function of the casting parameters, thereby increasing the flexibility of the plant.
