New minimill for Deacero, Mexico
Dec 29, 2009
Deacero, the largest Mexican steel producer, ordered a new minimill for the production of deformed bars, smooth and deformed wire rod.
The new production unit will be built at Saltillo's city near Monterrey facilities and it will be the 4th minimill supplied by Danieli to Deacero.
The meltshop will be composed of a 150-t EAF, a 150-t twin ladle furnace, and a 6-strand continuous casting machine, and will produce up to 1.5 Mt/a of billets from 130 up to 200 mm. The rolling mill capacity will be of approx 0.8/1 Mt/a and the layout will be arranged over a 21-stand continuous mill plus one 10-pass high-speed twist-free finishing block for the wire rod line, fed by rolled stock coming from the upstream pre-finishing mill. On-line water quenching and self-tempering of rebars will be performed by QTB lines, located at the finishing stand's delivery side.
The rolling mill is a design concept of future upgrading stages. Danieli Automation will supply the electricals and a fully integrated automation system, while the 120-t/h walking beam type reheating furnace, directly connected to the continuous casting machine for hot charging of billets, will be supplied by Danieli Centro Combustion. The supply is complete with the installation of a new LPP-type mill for micro-profiles, starting from round bar in coils produced in the new wire line.
With this added capacity the Mexican Group led by the Gutierrez family
will be able to produce approx 4 Mt/a of long products, and so become the first steel player in Mexico for long products.
Plant startup is scheduled as first priority in rolling mill area for the end of 2011.
