0.5 Mt/a special steels rolling mill for Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd.- India

Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd has selected Danieli as supplier for its new 500,000-t/a rolling mill plant to be installed in the state of Orissa, India, for production of specialty and engineering steel long products.
The new rolling mill, will produce straight bars, coiled bar and wire rod in coils in a wide range of special steel grades including stainless Austenitic/ Martensitic/ Ferritic), tool, bearing, spring, free cutting, cold heading, extrusion, case hardening, fine grain construction and other complex steel grades qualities. The product size range will include 16 mm to 90 mm dia SBQ round bars, 20 mm to 75 mm round-corner squares, 18 mm to 48 mm hexagons, 16 mm to 60 mm dia coiled round bars, 5.0 mm to 22 mm dia wire rod in coils weighing up to 2.9 t.
The new mill will be fed by a 100 t/h Danieli Centro Combustion walking beam-type reheating furnace and will be made up of 18 housingless H-V stands, on-line water cooling boxes for low-temperature rolling, and a 4-pass reducing and sizing block (RSB).
The 110 m/s wire rod production outlet will be composed of an 8-pass pre-finishing block plus a 4-pass twin module finishing block. The RSB block (first unit of this type in India) will act as finishing unit for straight and coiled bars and as intermediate/ prefinishing unit for feeding the wire rod line. Finishing rolling of the entire wire rod size range will be performed at the TMB unit, granting high operation flexibility and high yield.
State-of-the-art finishing outlets with on-line heat treatment facilities will allow production of superior quality finished products. More specifically:

straight bars: 84-m-long cooling bed, combined cut-to-length facilities with cold shear and cold saws, automatic counting, bundling and collecting facilities.

Bar-in-coil-line: Two Garret coilers and walking beam conveyor fitted with fans and hoods for controlled-cooling of the coils.

Wire rod: Oil-film-bearing loop layer, DSC controlled-cooling line, coil forming/handling/compacting/tying and collecting facilities, common with the bar-in-coil line.
All electricals and the advanced automation and process control system will be from Danieli Automation.
Startup is scheduled for the end of year 2010.
