Large-size special steel bloom caster in operation at Usha Martin Ltd, India

A new twin-strand, 12-m-radius Danieli special steel bloom conticaster operates at Usha Martin's new meltshop in Adityapur (Jamshedpur) in the State of Jharkand, after the startup that took place in September 2009.
Usha Martin produces high-quality alloy and special steels for the automobile industry, for the fastener industry, and for wire and wire ropes production. Thanks to the new caster operation the Adityapur works will increase the production from previous 350,000 t/a to over 850,000 t/a.
The machine is designed to produce up to 0.5 Mt/a of 150 x 150 mm² to 300 x 360 mm² special steel blooms in spring, bearing, CHQ and alloyed steel grades. The state-of-the art machine is fitted the latest technology available in conticasting of special steels and is also designed for future installation of a soft reduction system, which will make it possible to produce ball bearing steels and super clean steels, such as SAE 9254.
Danieli Automation has supplied the advanced Level 1 and 2 automation and process control system.
