At its Bekasi works in the Indonesian province of West Java, PT. Gunung operates a long-product line for the production of sections and wire rods, as well as a flat-product line for the production of heavy plates and pipes. Slabs were bought out. This will soon be the sound of past, as the company ordered a single-strand slab caster to produce their own slabs for further processing in its own Steckel and heavy-plate mill.
With an annual capacity of 1.2 million t, the caster will produce 220 and 250-mm-thick slabs, the width of which can range between 800 and 2100 mm. Steel grades will cover structural steels as well as pipe and heavy-plate grades.
Commissioning of the caster is scheduled for mid-2013.
