Since end of March 2009 SMS Siemag has become the new name of the company that had, so far, been known as SMS Demag.

The roots of the Weiss family company go back over 130 years. From a forge located near Siegen, Germany, the company Siemag (Siegener Maschinenbau AG) evolved and grew over several generations, in particular under the leadership of Bernhard Weiss. Over the last decades, Heinrich Weiss has developed the company into a worldwide group covering the entire process chain in metallurgical plant construction including electrical systems, automation and customer service. Steady integration of companies such as Schloemann, Concast, MAN-GHH and Demag has played a key role.

For the last three years, all SMS group company shares have been owned by the Weiss family. Heinrich Weiss, told STEEL GRIPS that "by taking this step, my family is continuing the tradition of our family-owned company."
