Corrosion inhibition of Cu in sulphate solution

Copper, potentiostatic polarization, sulphate ions, copper corrosion inhibitors
A synergistic effect exists between ethylene diamine (EDA) and benzotriazole (BTAH) to prevent the corrosion of copper in 0.1 M Na2SO4. This effect has been studied using potentiostatic polarization, Tafel line polarization as well as weight loss measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that EDA alone acts as a promoter while the presence of BTAH can facilitate the adsorption of BTAH on the copper surface to become more effective and increase the inhibition efficiency from 65 % to 99.45 %.
