Andrzej Barbacki and Mikolaj Poplawski: On the possibility of cold deformation of medium-carbon low-alloy steel strengthened by bainitic transformation
The influence of heat treatment and cold working conditions on the mechanical properties and structure of medium-carbon low-alloy Si-Mn steel is discussed. Due to the application of austenitizing within the temperature range Ac1 - Ac3, as well as of austempering, a material featuring extensive plastic deformability and good impact strength was obtained. During both com-pression and tensile tests at room temperature, a significant uniform deformation is accompanied by the TRIP effect (transformation induced plasticity).
