The facade of the 228 meter tall building features stainless steel. The global headquarters of financial service providers Goldman Sachs has now opened for business, and more than 9,000 employees have moved into offices there since January 2010. The high-rise is a further showpiece for the use of stainless steel from Germany. "Stainless steel is being used more and more in the construction of high-rise buildings," says Gert Weiß, head of product service at ThyssenKrupp Nirosta. "Architects are attracted not only by the material's durability, but also by the variety of finishes available and its consistent high quality even over large areas." Construction work on the new Goldman Sachs headquarters building started in late 2005. It was designed by the renowned US architectural firm of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. The 43-story building overlooking the Hudson River is equipped with a special eco-friendly underfloor air system. The facade is made from Nirosta 4404 (1.4404 - X 2 CrNiMo 17-12-2). The panels have a thickness of 1.0/2.0 mm, a width of 1,500 mm at various lengths and a "Linen" (2M) finish. In total 400 metric tons of material have been supplied. © Copyright 2007 by GRIPS media
