NIR drying technology at Dongbu Steel´s

The PCM (precoated metal) products are produced on painting lines and widely used for building material, or home appliances. Painting lines consist of pretreatment, painting and drying processes. The typical drying methods are hot air, infrared rays, electron beam, or induction heated oven. PMT (peak metal temperature) is the core factor that determines the product quality. The Incheon Works of Dongbu Steel installed NIR (near infrared) and operated from September, 2007. A setup model was developed to control the strip temperature, to be applied on site, and systemized. The results showed that the setup model’s accuracy was higher than 96 %.
