STEEL GRIPS - Journal of Steel and Related Materials is a modern scientific
journal. High quality will be guaranteed by an international Scientific
Circle the members of which review all articles before publication.
STEEL
GRIPS has been announced to ISI and is currently being registered for SCI
(science citation index/impact factor).
Language
STEEL GRIPS journal publishes articles in
English only.
Original publication - copyright
The requirement for publication of a technical article in
STEEL GRIPS
is that the work has not been published in any other technical journal, either
in the form submitted or in any other similar form.
With the acceptance of the manuscript by the Scientific Circle, the author
assigns the rights of publication and translation of his work to GRIPS media
GmbH so that publication elsewhere requires the prior agreement of GRIPS media
GmbH. Ancillary rights, such as the right of further reproduction for commercial
purposes by way of electronical, photomechanical or other processes and the
granting of licences for reprints, remain exclusively with GRIPS media GmbH.
Copyright of material used in articles is the responsibility of the author;
extensive quotations must be acknowledged, as must the source of illustrations.
From manuscript to the printed article
Papers are welcome on subjects that match the aims and
scopes of
STEEL GRIPS - Journal of Steel and Related Materials.
Please
submit your paper to the Editorial Office
by e-mail only.
Receipt of contributions will be acknowledged as soon as possible. The
confirmation
of receipt is sent by e-mail. Each manuscript gets a tracking number
(G 01 ###) which should be referred to in further communication.
Reviewing procedure. A Scientific Circle consisting of well-known specialists
from all over the world will allow for high quality in reviewing the scientific
papers. This is a pre-requisite to be included with ISI´s Science Citation Index
and to be registered for Impact Factor. It is standard practice for contributions
to be
sent to referees, whose identity will not be divulged unless they
have suggested otherwise. The Editor will decide on acceptance or rejection
of the manuscript after reference to the Scientific Circle.
Drafts or articles will be returned
to authors if referees' or editors' comments show that revision would be advantageous.
In this case autors will be requested to clarify any parts of the text that
are not understandable and to complete missing documents. The editor reserve
the right to reject material without entering into further correspondence.
Mail of Acceptance. As soon as the reviewing procedure is closed the
Editorial Office will inform the author by e-mail whether publication is possible.
Galley proof. When all editorial work is finished, the corresponding
author will receive a galley proof by fax. Please note that only real mistakes
may be corrected at this final phase. If the author does neither return the
printing approval nor react in any way by the given deadline the Editorial Office
will send the paper to the printer´s in the form submitted as galley proof.

extent of 6 printed pages (pp) should not be exceeded. In exceptional
cases, e.g. survey papers, the editor may grant an enlargement. The extent of
an article can be estimated as follows:
Title, summary: 0,3 pp; 2 pages written with steelgrips.doc: 1 pp,
6-7 figures or tables: 1 pp.
The

For
equations please use the Microsoft Word formula editor or compatible
e.g. MathTyp equation editor and chose „equation“ from the format
catalogue. Please note that all parameters are to be formatted italic, vectors
bold italic, matrices bold. Only constants are to be written in body text.
Equations must be written out exactly. Capital and small letters,
subscripts, superscripts, character sizes, character form and the height of
characters within the line must be accurate.
The consecutive numbering of equations is desirable. lf many characters and
symbols are used in formulae it is advisable to summarize and describe them
in a list of symbols at the beginning of the text. The explanation of symbols
and quantities should not employ equals signs (=).
References should be consecutively numbered in the text by means of
numerals within square brackets, thus [1] [4...7] [4; 7]. A separate
list of references should be added at the end of the text. Examples for correct
citations are given in the following. See [1] for journals, [2] for books, [3]
for preprints/congress reports, [4] for theses, [5] for patents:
[1]
Author's name, Initials; etc.: title of journal Volume (year) No.
?, p. ???/??.
[2]
Author's name, Initials; etc.: title of a book, no. of edition, publishing
company, town, datum.

[4]

but:
Smith, A. B. et al.: STEEL GRIPS1 (2003) No. 1, p. 35/49.
Arrangement of the manuscript
A manuscript for
STEEL GRIPS must consist of the following parts (see
template steelgrips.doc):
Contents of the article in keywords of about 5 - 10 lines each. This
documentation in
STEEL GRIPS is presented in the online table
of contents. This allows the reader to gain a first survey on the contents of
the article. Furthermore, documentations allow libraries and documentation offices
to render a short review of the article's contents.
Title
first names, last names of all authors.
Abstract of about 20 lines. Precise information is required concerning
the following points: problem to be solved, objective of the investigation;
test parameters, materials; newly discovered relationships; results.
Author's note: For each author, please send a black-and-white photograph
(as separate *.tif file) and add the
academic degree, prename and family name,
professional degree, Department, Company (University), town/country.
Text of the article. A clear structuring of the text by means of section
headlines has proven helpful for the readers:
Bold type medium size headline (header1
within steelgrips.doc);
Bold type caption. (chose bdy within steelgrips.doc and add bold)
at the beginning of a paragraph,
Italic type caption. (chose bdy within steelgrips.doc and add
italic) at the beginning of a paragraph.

into Rich-Text-Format (.rtf) only. Neither ASCII nor TeX-Files are accepted!
Figures and tables
Methods of investigation and technical data of materials and plants are best
summarized in tabular form. Results of investigations should either be presented
in figures or in tables.
All drawings are to be supplied in reproducible form. Ordinates and abscissae
should be captioned in words. Units are to be separated by a comma only! (It
is no more allowed to put them into brackets).

Use only a
Helvetica-type fonts for figures.
Submit
figures and diagrams in
separate files, each.
Do
not include figures in Word-documents. For Pixelgraphics use the
*.tif
or *:jpg (uncompressed) format. Vectorgraphics and diagrams should also be converted
into *.tif./*.jpg. If you want to use other formats please ask the editor.
The as-scanned resolution should be 300dpi 8bit grayscale or 1bit b/w. at
a minimum figure-width of 85 mm. Please do not have figure data recalculated
from lower resolutions, their reproduction quality would be too poor.
Diagrams submitted as data files should have one of the following widths (
without
any margin):
- 85 mm (the width of one column is preferred and mostly an adequate size)
- 114 mm (is to be used for complicated illustrations)
- 174 mm (in exceptional cases very complicated figures ask for this width)
Photos: Strong contrast positive prints are suitable for printing; transparencies
and negative films can be used . With microstructure photos, please always mark
with the enlargement. All figures must be consecutively numbered.
The author himself is responsible for correct illustration forms.
