Job opportunity at Institute of Research of Iron & Steel, Jiangsu Province Sha-Steel (IRIS, JP/SS), P.R. China
IRIS started to form in early 2007. Buildings are under construction and will be completed in January 2008. All equipment has already been ordered and is scheduled to be delivered in March, 2008.
Research at IRIS will be structured in 11 groups focusing environment/ ironmaking, steelmaking/casting, rolling/forming, modelling/sensing, welding, plate, sheet, pipe/tube, wire/rod, corrosion/surface coating and analysis/ characterization. Within 5 years, IRIS is scheduled to employ 500 research members.
IRIS, the Institute of Research of Iron & Steel invites top class researchers to join the institute as inaugural members in three categories:
- researchers (MS/PhD, 0 - 5 years work experience),
- senior researchers, (PhD, more than 5 years work experience)
- group managers.
Candidates applying for one of these jobs should have a successful record of achievements in one of the R & D areas, research at IRIS will focus.

IRIS, JP/SS was founded by Jiangsu province government and Sha-Steel as an independent R & D institute, but financial support mainly comes from Sha-Steel. They are determined to make IRIS a world class R & D institute to develop advanced steel grades with leading edge green processes for sustainable growth of Sha-Steel and the steel industry in Jiangsu.
Sha Steel, the largest private integrated steel company in China, produced ca. 15 million t of crude steel and 13 million t of long and flat steel products in 2006, thus ranking No. 4 in China.
Substantial investments have been made to construct the new buildings and to install the top notch equipment for IRIS to process and characterize steel for the process- and product-research groups as shown will be disclosed when clicking on
