Icdas Celik A.S. orders minimill

Icdas, Turkey, and Concast, Switzerland, have concluded a contract for the supply of an electric steelworks. It will be the second works at the Biga location, at which a minimill from Concast went into operation as recently as 2004.

The contract comprises engineering and the supply of plant and equipment for an electric arc furnace of 220 t, a ladle furnace, a VD facility (option) and a high-performance continuous caster with eight strands for billets of size 180 x 180 mm. The caster will be equipped with Convex  technology. An annual production of 2.2 million t of billets is planned.

The electric arc furnace will be equipped with a 230-MVA transformer and altogether eight injectors. These will attain a total output of up to 48 MW.

Commissioning is scheduled for the third quarter of 2009.
