Two Midrex DR plants for North Africa
Midrex Technologies, Inc. (USA) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Ezz Steel (Egypt) and Technip Germany Gmbh to establish two new Midrex direct reduction plants to be located in Egypt and Algeria. Both proposed plants will be 1.65 Mt/a Midrex Megamods with turn key services provided by a consortium of Midrex and Technip.
Ezz Steel intends for the Egyptian DR plant to be erected at their existing Ain Sokhna, Suez site to provide an additional captive supply of DRI for local melt shop use. Under the MOU, Midrex and Technip have begun preliminary engineering and all parties have the goal to start construction in late 2008. The Algerian DR plant location and overall schedule will be announced, at a later date.
Ezz Steel presently owns three Midrex plants operating in El Dikheila, Egypt near Alexandria.

Rebar Mill for Gulf Steel Industries in United Arab Emirates
Gulf Steel Industries Co. Ltd placed an order with Siemens Metals Technologies for the supply of new rebar mill which will be built in Mussaffah Industrial Area of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. The line will produce approximately 400,000 tons of rebars and plain rounds per year for the booming Middle Eastern steel market.

Jesco to build first seamless tube plant in Saudi Arabia
Jubail Energy Services Company [JESCO], a subsidiary of Riyadh based Industrialization & Energy Services Company [TAQA], placed an order with Danieli for the supply of the first seamless tube plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Danieli Centro Tube [DCT] - a division of Danieli - is in charge of the construction of this new plant. It will be installed on a complete turnkey basis in Al-Jubail.

Midrex Technologies, Inc. has announced that Saudi Arabia's Al-Tuwairqi Group has successfully started-up the first of two relocated Midrex DR plants in Dammam, Saudi Arabia with first product produced in early May.

Icdas Celik A.S. orders minimill
Icdas, Turkey, and Concast, Switzerland, have concluded a contract for the supply of an electric steelworks. It will be the second works at the Biga location, at which a minimill from Concast went into operation as recently as 2004.
