Jan 19, 2010
The fifth steeluniversity Challenge will begin at 12:00 GMT on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 and will run for 24 hours. Aimed at university and college students and new employees in the steel industry supply chain, this online competition will use the steeluniversity.org website’s secondary steelmaking and plate rolling simulations. The task is to make steel plate for a yellow goods (construction and agricultural equipment) application.

Participants can make an unlimited number of attempts to achieve the given specification at lowest total cost. In the last Challenge 478 teams from 26 countries took part.

Two prizes will be awarded by the World Steel Association to the best teams in the Industry and Student categories. The results of the Challenge will be announced on 1 February, 2010.

The Industry winner of the Challenge 2008 was a team from Baosteel and the winning Student team was from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne.
