Introduction of the first dry coal processing method in Brazil with Candiota coal
Brazilian coal, beneficiation, air jig, characterization, Candiota coal
The largest Brazilian coal deposit, called Candiota, is located in the Southern part of the country close to Uruguay border. The mining rights belong to state owned Companhia Riograndense de Mineração (CRM). After having been mined, the Candiota coal is crushed and sent via belt conveyor to the thermoelectric power plant Presidente Médici. In this plant located by the mine, the coal is milled and burned without any beneficiation process.
This work presents a characterization study of Candiota coal aiming at its beneficiation in air jigs. The paper also presents the coal preparation flowsheet for the beneficiation of Candiota coal that will be followed at the mine.
