Preparation of ferrotitanium by thermit reduction of red mud
Ferrotitanium, bauxite, microalloying, smelting
Preparation of lean grade ferrotitanium by the aluminothermic reduction of red mud has been attempted. Fe-Al-Si-Ti ferroalloy so produced has been effectively used for the production of titanium microalloyed steels (0.02 - 0.04 % Ti) having reasonably good mechanical properties.
