  • Outokumpu has signed a contract with Primetals Technologies for two caster molds and two Mold Expert Fiber systems
  • Mold Expert Fiber is a new technology for getting an “inside look” into continuous casting molds
  • Outokumpu will use this technology to increase knowledge about mold flow and to aid the development of new steel grades

Finnish stainless steel producer Outokumpu recently placed an order with Primetals Technologies for two new molds and two new Mold Expert Fiber systems. The equipment will be supplied to Outokumpu’s two single-strand slab casters at its site in Tornio, located in the north-western part of Finland.

Hydro Precision Tubing –Hydro Suzhou– awarded Danieli Breda the contract for a new, 60-MN front-loading direct extrusion press for the Suzhou plant, Jiangsu province, in the south of China.

The investment aims at reinforcing the production of special aluminium profiles for the automotive market, widely requested by the Chinese and international markets.

Swiss Steel Group has reached another milestone on the road to decarbonization. Steeltec, the Group’s Swiss plant located in Emmenbrücke, is now relying exclusively on Swiss hydropower to produce its special steels. For this, a game-changing strategic partnership was concluded with Axpo Holding AG. The Swiss plant can already boast very low emission values and is reducing CO2 emissions even further in taking this step.

Recently, Brazilian steel producer Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém (CSP) ordered a new relining machine from Primetals Technologies for its steel mill located in Pecém, a city in the state of Ceará, in north-eastern Brazil. Equipped with two 300-ton LD converters (BOFs) supplied by Primetals Technologies in 2016, CSP’s plant has an annual capacity of three million tons of slabs.
