thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg GmbH has awarded Primetals Technologies an order to convert the existing cycloconverter drive systems to medium-voltage drive systems on stands 7 and 9 of its medium-wide hot strip mill in Hohenlimburg, Germany.

Turkish steel producer Tosyali Demir Celik Sanayi A.S. has placed an order with Primetals Technologies to supply an EAF Quantum electric arc furnace, a twin vacuum-degassing plant with oxygen blowing and a two-strand slab caster for a flat steel greenfield project in Iskenderun, Turkey.

A new training module for rolling mills has been introduced to the NSK academy online learning platform. The latest module is targeted at those involved in specifying or maintaining bearings that need to withstand the challenging working conditions found in rolling mill applications. Like all training modules available at NSK academy, registered users attaining an 80% pass mark will receive a certificate denoting their achievement.

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted numerous industries, and the steel market is among those facing reduced forecasts and order volumes. After the 2019 financial year, in which both order intake (EUR 3.15 billion) and sales (EUR 2.94 billion) rose once more, SMS group is lowering its outlook for the coming years. The global market leader in metallurgical plant construction expects this year's order intake to be around one third below the level originally planned, but reaffirms its growth strategy and realignment towards areas of future growth.
